I Have No Interest in Becoming My Best Self

An unexpected TikTok, a pair of heels, and a small idea that has acquired a brief.

I saw a TikTok about car slippers and immediately thought, Well, that makes an unreasonable amount of sense. You take off your heels, slip into another pair of shoes, and leave that pair in the car so they're there the next time. The heels don't get ruined. The slippers have a job. Apparently my car needs its own footwear.
What appealed to me was the specificity. Not a new wardrobe or a dramatic change to my life. Just an answer to a small, irritating problem involving something I actually want to wear. I like the heels. I would like to keep liking them without treating the backs of them as a consumable resource.
So now I'm on the hunt for the right pair. Which is where a passing curiosity starts developing requirements, because apparently I cannot even be casual about slippers.
They need to be easy to slip into. Taking off the heels is the point; replacing them with another small administrative task rather defeats the exercise. They also need to fit neatly in the car, because that's where they'll live. I am looking for car slippers, not another thing to remember to bring with me.
The pair I'm looking for needs to be simple to change into, compact enough to store neatly, and something I'll actually want to put on. Those are my requirements for the hunt, rather than the results of a product test. I haven't found the perfect pair yet, and I'm not going to promote something to “the answer” because it looks promising in a photograph.
This is the sort of thing I want For the Whim of It to have room for. Something catches my attention. I investigate. It may turn out to be useful, ridiculous, or a surprisingly satisfying combination of the two. It doesn't have to become a lifestyle, and I don't have to pretend I've discovered something profound before I'm allowed to enjoy the hunt.
For now, the car slippers are still on my list. When I find a pair worth discussing, I'll come back with the link and make clear whether I've tried them or am still admiring them on the internet. Those are different levels of research, however enthusiastically I conduct both.
Apparently a small idea has acquired a brief. We'll see whether it also acquires footwear.
